Calhoun Academy is shaped by the vision of Shilpa Reddy, whose work in education has always been driven by a simple belief: the early years of a child’s life deserve the highest levels of care, thoughtfulness, and design.
Shilpa’s journey has taken her through classrooms in Hyderabad, community schools in rural India, and modern learning environments across the United States. Her work has ranged from redesigning curriculum in government schools to supporting families through long-term mentorship initiatives, to collaborating with early-years educators abroad. Each chapter strengthened her conviction that quality education is built on three pillars — well-trained teachers, research-rooted practice, and environments that feel calm, purposeful, and safe.
During her years in the U.S., Shilpa observed how thoughtful teaching, gentle routines, and inquiry-led learning could transform a child’s confidence. Her experiences there — combined with her grassroots work in India — shaped her understanding of what meaningful early education can look like when science, empathy, and structure come together.
Calhoun Academy is the natural expression of this philosophy. Under her leadership, the school is designed to feel warm rather than rushed, intentional rather than busy, and deeply respectful of childhood. Shilpa brings to Calhoun both her global perspective and her unwavering belief that children thrive when they are seen, guided, and encouraged to explore the world with curiosity and courage.
